Basically what you're doing is copying the layer vector mask from the "Rim" layer over and onto the cup's outer shape and setting it to subtract the shape (add a clipping mask essentially). Step 6 explains how to go about this, if it's not immediately clear how to do that. When I made this tutorial my knowledge of Photoshop was much less than it is now, and therefore some of the techniques seen here are probably not the most sensible.
